Get Lucky Half Marathon

Love the 7:38 pacers! They helped me Get Lucky in Chicago. Despite the cold, bitter, gray, windy, wet weather — my best half marathon ever, 1:40.

Can you believe it?

Well, I can't take full credit — all I did was run it. It was the workouts from Lisa, coach extraordinaire, that enabled me to achieve the time that I did. And I couldn't be happier. Because the day was so crumby, it would have been so easy to give up or worse, to start with the expectation to take it easy. . . Mind over matter.

Believe me, the last 5 miles with a 20 mile per hour headwind off the lake making me run on an angle and sleet hitting me in the face, I would be lying if I didn't tell you I wanted to walk. I did a little quick math to figure how much time I banked, and since I don't trust my quick math, AND because I believe there is no walking in running, I kept running.

A good friend of mine has a saying: If you don't do it 100%, you didn't do it.

So true, don't you think?

I tell my kids, if they are going to put any effort into doing something, then give it all you've got. Cleaning their room, doing their homework, playing their sport.

Giving it your all feels so good, doesn't it?

I need to tell you about the green flower in the picture . . . so special, so touched . . .
