Music on the Run

[source - google images]

Dear Paul,

I'm on my way.

I don't know what to say other than you and Julio really do it for me.

I ran 5 miles, average pace 8:34. It seems like forever ago that I could actually move as fast as that.

Paul, do you want to know my secret? I put your song on repeat. It's a trick I learned running the Illinois Marathon. It's against the law, it was against the law. What the mama saw, it was against the law...

And I'm on my way, I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

I thank you for that.

Music on the Run

Hello fun.

I love your lyrics and your sound brings back the best memory with my sister, watching you perform in Chicago.

Let me know when you have some new songs, can't wait to hear them!

Music on the Run

Well hello, King Charles . . .

King Charles is a sensitive romantic with a sense of humor — perfect company for a long run.

LoveBlood is the cd.

Ivory Road is my favorite.

You're the nose on my bullet
The trigger on my gun
You're the sandbank in the ocean
Oxygen in my blood

You're the fastest of the fish
You're the prickliest pear
You're a chameleon in the night
You're the Sahara's sun glare

You're my mind's rest
You're the strings on my guitar
You're the wax in my mustache
The keys to my car . . .

Take a look at his video of Bam Bam and fall in love. <3

Thank you, Joy, for sharing.

I will pass it along....

The video and song, Ho Hey, by The Lumineers is dreamy!

Have a great weekend.

Running Log

Wow! So much to show and tell....
I left you hanging with that last post.

We went on vacation.

I will have to leave you hanging again with the vacation details and lots o' photos. I will be working on that this weekend for Monday...

First things first.

Last week: 30.2 total miles

My coach, Lisa, I feel comfortable enough calling her "my coach"...she is awesome, she emails me my running workouts for the week...kicked my butt! Speed workouts. Did I mention, I mentioned to her, I wanted to qualify for Boston and she didn't laugh at me. Now, I think she is secretly training me for Boston. These speed workouts: "do this and that and if that is too slow....do this..."

Did I mention I love a challenge?

Wednesday's speed workout was this:
(I apologize if you are not a runner and this is so blah, blah, blah...)

3 miles

okay, no prob.

first mile warm up/regular pace.
then 4 half miles increasing speed from 8:50, 8:40, 8:30, 7:50 pace.

okay.

well, I was getting a tiny bit (fill in descriptive here) that my first 1/2 mile pace was 8:55.
and then 8:43.
next 8:34.
then 8:06.

I was a little off. It was a challenge. My legs would not move as I was wishing them to.

The idea was to gain speed as you go and not lose it. End strong.

See? Wouldn't you agree she's secretly training me for Boston :)

BTW Boston changed its qualifying times this year. I now need to run 26.2 miles in 3hrs. 45 mins, 5 minutes faster than before (unless I wait until next year...one benefit of turning a year older).

Anyway, at this point, I hope to finish the Chicago Marathon strong. Or just plain ol' finish the darn race.

Oh yeah...I am really ready for some new music!

Suggestions?

I will leave you with some older Jack Johnson that I stubbled upon tonight:

There is no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
And no song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
Our dreams and they are made out of real things
Like a shoebox of photographs with sepia-toned loving
Love is the answer at least for most of the questions in my heart, like
Why are we here? And where do we go? And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together

Mmm, always better when we're together
Yeh, we'll look at the stars when we're together
Well it's always better when we're together
Yeh, it's always better when we're together

All of these moments just might find their way into my dreams tonight
But I know that they'll be gone when the morning light sings
Or brings new things for tomorrow night you see
They'll be gone too, to many things I have to do
But follow these dreams might find their way into my day to day scene
I'd be under the impression, I was somewhere in between
With only two, just me and you, not so many things we got to do
Or places we got to be, we'll sit beneath the mango tree now

Yeh, so always better when we're together
Mmm, we're somewhere in between together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeh, always better when we're together

I believe in memories they look so,
So pretty when I sleep
And when I wake up you look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time
And there is no, no song I could sing
And there is no combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together

Playlist

Listening and working on getting things ready for the show next weekend at the Merchandise Mart. Attempting to make trees out of posts this weekend...I do love a challenge....

and the new cd by Jenny and Johnny - I'm Having Fun Now.

Love their style and why not Jenny is from Rilo Kiley another fave.

Love the title. It's something I would say, especially if I were writing songs with my
boyfriend.

Love the sound of My Pet Snakes.

I'm a lyrics type of gal and what surprises me is that for once I'm not tuned into the words, but the song(s) as a whole.

What do you think?

Running Log - Soak Up The Sun

Saturday: 5 fast miles

Took a break from running the last two weeks until Saturday came along. The most gorgeous perfect day. I did soak up the sun. I have to praise the randomness of the shuffle on this glorious run. Two songs came on my ipod, consecutively, that are worth giving a listen:

Throwing Stones by Shout Out Louds

Your Ex-Lover Is Dead by Stars

(unfortunately they were not available to put on my playlist, must google or go to itunes)

Long Run Coming Up - Saturday 9 Miles

Last Friday: 7 miles

Tuesday: 5 miles
Wednesday: 3 miles

My right quad has been on the brink of letting me down. My running has once again been a struggle with the onset of a burning sensation in my thigh. As I have gotten in the higher miles (for me anyway) I have realized a thing called muscle recovery. My hope is that I haven't realized this too late. Staying hydrated and eating all the right foods before and after...

The plan for Saturday is to run 9 miles.
I am truly looking forward to it!

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above,
Don't fence me in.
Let me run through the wide open country that I love,
Don't fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze,
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees,
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don't fence me in.

Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies.
On my Cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise.

I want to run to the ridge where the west commences
And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hovels and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in.

Running Log- Getting Back On Track

Monday: 4 miles

Tuesday: 6.5 miles

Wednesday: 3 miles

Thursday: Rest

This running thing is fun again. I am much smarter about knowing when to push myself and when to listen to my body and hold back.

So important.

Saturday, tomorrow, is supposed to be an 8 mile run. The weather has been absolutely beautiful. I am looking forward to it.

Back to the new music I mentioned last time...I cannot strongly recommend any songs from the new bands I have been listening to except for song away by hockey.

It is an interesting run when my thoughts are louder than my music. I kinda like it.

My husband found this lovely song playing. I needed to share - it's a good one:

Running Log - So Far So Good

Monday: a very slow 3 miles

Tuesday: a very slow 5.5 miles

So far so good. There are only 10 weeks until the half marathon...trying to stay positive. Anxious to work back up to the longer distances, but taking it slow.

Yesterday I deleted all song from my shuffle (except for Vampire Weekend) and up loaded all new music to get to know: Rogue Wave, Shout Out Louds, Stars, Grizzly Bear, Mumford & Sons, Hockey, and Freelance Whales.

I will keep you posted!

What Is Everyone Listening To These Days?

I would love to hear your suggestions for new music to download!

As you know, I can't get enough Vampire Weekend...this is my favorite song of the moment (see video below). It puts a spring in my stride when I am running. But, I have to say I am getting a bit bored with the songs on my ipod. Help!

Hey, is that Jake Gyllenhaal?

Day 97 - Today's Run:
4.5 miles

Status of pulled muscle:
on the mend, so far so good.

Running Log- My Friends, Vampire Weekend

Day 29 - Friday's Run:
70 minutes
6.7 miles
10:29 avg. mile

Day 30 - Saturday:
No Run

Day 31 - Sunday's Run:
90 minutes
8.6 miles

Gorgeous sunny day! The new Vampire Weekend cd kept me company on this long run. I wasn't sure about the song cousins at first when I heard it on the radio, but after seeing the video, it is really growing on me. Nice fast beat to keep pace when running!

Running Log- Music Makes The Run

Day 25 - Monday's Run:
52 minutes
5.1 miles

Treadmill. Am I not seeing the button to turn on the fan that blows a nice breeze on you while you're running in place?

Day 26 - Yesterday's Run:
62 minutes
close to 6 miles

Best run yet! A brisk 20 degrees, but I finally got the layering down. Comfy socks. The music shuffle perfect for the day - you know what I mean? Usually it's the Fratellis or Vampire Weekend that keeps me going, but this time more mellow and oh so good:

5 Years Time - Noah and the Whale
Balloon Man - Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians
Just Got Lucky - JoBoxers
Get Rhythm - Walk The Line
Airstream - Driver-Gomez
Monkey Man - Toots & The Maytals
Little Secrets - Passion Pit
Red Staggerwing - Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris
Nineteen - Old 97's
Finer Feelings - Spoon
Missy - The Airborne Toxic Event
Louie - Ida Maria
Move It On Over - George Thorogood & The Destroyers
