The half marathon on Saturday was tough.
So hot and humid. Very pretty course, though.
They black flagged the race and stopped the clocks when I was around mile 12, but didn't know it, so I continued to run it in.
A man with a megaphone was yelling to walk and I thought that is not a nice way to cheer on your friends especially if they got this far...He wasn't wearing an official 13.1 neon shirt, who knew he was talking to me too.
Although I am happy with my time (2:04/9:32 avg mile) it was the hardest race to date. Never got in that sweet spot or zone when running, thought about walking the entire time.
I am so thankful to have run with my friend Rachel. Her whole being is filled with a calming, positive energy that touches everyone she meets. I love that about her. Without her being there and doing this race together, I don't think I could have done as well as I did. During that brutal run, there was nothing more that I wanted to do, besides walk, was to meet her at the finish line and have our free race beer together. We ended up hanging out the rest of the afternoon. And shared a "cultural excursion" that we will never forget. Talk about bonding! What a great day.
Charlie Kern is absolutely right when he lists companionship as one of the 5 basic things you need in your running (and life) to make your dreams come true.
