This week has been a light running week and last week I did not run at all as I am resting from the marathon. I feel great except for a few black toes, but it is important that I let my muscles recover a bit.
So it was a nice feeling to meet my group this week knowing I was running a few miles at an easy pace and not doing any speed work. What's next? I don't have any races scheduled although I am considering a local 5k on May 20th.
Driving around town yesterday, it hit me that I qualified for Boston. After the last few years of running because I love it, it feels like no big deal. Actually, it doesn't seem real. But, I did it, I really did it!
When I started running January 1, 2010, I was thrilled to run 35 minutes straight.
In January 2011, I joined a running group and met wonderful people and an extraordinary coach. She asked us to write down our running goals and I was embarrassed to write qualify for The Boston Marathon as I had never run more than 13.1 miles. And I wasn't even fast!
October 9, 2011, I ran my first marathon and finished in 3 hours and 59 minutes (3:59).
April 28, 2012, I ran my second marathon in 3 hours and 39 minutes (3:39).
Boston qualifying time for 35-39 year olds is 3 hours and 40 minutes (3:40).
I am 45 years old.

Have a great weekend!
Oh, you are absolutely right. And then when one reaches a goal, another should be set (after a celebration, of course)!
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with your time! Qualifying for Boston is a big, big deal!
